In the dog days of summer, winter may seem like it will never be here. But, winter is closer than it may seem. Before you know it, you will be switching
off you’re A/C unit and reaching for that hot coco.
Before the onslaught of colder weather hits us, there are a few steps you can take to properly prepare your HVAC unit for winter. Taking these extra steps
will help make it easier to transition from season to season.
1. Clean your outside unit – use a hose to clean out any bugs, cobwebs, bird poo, and debris. After your unit is clean,
allow for it to dry completely.
2. In really cold climates, install foam pipe covers around exterior exposed pipes. Cut foam to fit the length and diameter of the pipe.
Wrap duct tape around the foam cover to hold it in place.
3. Protect your HVAC unit with a canvas or vinyl cover. This helps stop debris from getting in the machine which makes for a quick start when
the weather starts to get nice again. Some HVAC companies sell covers which fit specific machines, but you can also find standard covers
at hardware stores or online.
4. Make sure to regularly check your HVAC unit throughout the winter. Sometimes, little critters will try and make nests under your HVAC
cover in an attempt to escape the cold. Regularly check under the cover can ensure that no animals setting up camp
for the winter will do damage to your outdoor HVAC unit.
Following all of these steps will help maintain your HVAC unit and make sure that you have a hassle free transition into the warmer weather. To further

in the spring is always a good idea so you can catch any problems before the warmer weather sets in, and you’ll also beat the rush!
